MDF or medium density fibre boards, are a relatively new type of engineered wood product. These boards are made from residues of hardwood and softwood gluing together with wax and resin under extreme pressure, It is called Medium Density Fibreboard or MDF wood. It is stronger and denser than particle board.

Types of MDF

Different kinds of MDF are found which be labeled by density. Followings are the main type of MDF board:

  • LDF – less than 650 kg / m3.

LDF plate (stands for Low-Density Fiberboard) is fiberboard with low density (also known as L-MDF).

  • MDF – from 650 to 800 kg / m3.
  • HDF – over 750 kg / m3

HDF (stands for High-Density Fiberboard) is a board of high-density fiber.

Followings are the uses of Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF):

  • Mainly used for furniture making.
  • For making kitchen cabinets, molding or in the bathroom environment.
  • As an exterior cladding for housing has successfully been used.
